On 2nd December 2020, as part of the “Zero Waste Hour” initiatives, a mass cleaning campaign was carried out all over the Samtse Town. The event was organized by the Samtse Dzongkhag Administration, led by the Dzongkhag Beautification Officer and the Dzongkhag Environment Officer to encourage individual responsibilities among the local communities and residents towards keeping the area clean and green.

Over 600 of participants from various government sectors, regional offices, RBA, RBP, business community, Dratsang, schools and institutions took part in the mass cleaning campaign. Similarly, other institutions, agencies and gewog administration also observed the event on the same day. A total of 23 supervisors including regional and sector heads were assigned for each group in various designated areas in Samtse Town.

“Zero Waste Hour” campaign with the theme “My waste, my responsibility” was launched by Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen on 2nd June 2019, coinciding with the Coronation Day of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo, with an aim to instill a behavioral change for proper waste management and practice sustainable consumption lifestyle. The “Zero Waste Hour” initiative is observed on the 2nd day of every month devoting at least an hour to achieve Bhutan’s vision of Zero Waste Society by 2030.
