International Yoga Day in Samtse Dzongkhag

Samtse Dzongkhag observed International Yoga Day with the practice of Sorig Zhiney and Luejong, following directives from the Royal Government of Bhutan. The session was led by Dasho Dzongdag, Dzongrab, and Dasho OC, RBP Samtse and saw participation from various individuals including sector and regional heads, civil servants, employees from regional and corporate offices, health professionals, faculties from Samtse College of Education, and community members.
Samtse Dzongkhag joined the global celebration of International Yoga Day on 21st June 2025. The event brought together participants from various sectors, including Dzongkhag civil servants, health professionals, sector and regional heads, faculties from Samtse College of Education, and local residents.
To commemorate the occasion, a special session on Sorig Zhiney and Luejong a traditional Bhutanese therapeutic exercise rooted in the principles of Sowa Rigpa was conducted. The guided session included gentle movements and breathing techniques aimed at enhancing physical flexibility, mental clarity, and emotional well-being. This unique practice, resonating with the spirit of yoga, highlighted Bhutanโs distinctive approach to holistic health and wellness.
The event effectively highlighted the value of yoga and indigenous wellness practices in nurturing a healthier and more mindful society. Participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to experience Luejong and left with a renewed commitment to personal well-being.
The Sorig Zhiney and Luejong session was jointly facilitated by the Dzongkhag Public Health Office and the Traditional Medicine Unit, Samtse Hospital.
