Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary healthcare services, including disease diagnosis, vaccination, disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and public awareness on animal disease prevention and control.
• Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate livestock development programmes in coordination with Gewog Administrations and relevant stakeholders.
• Promote improved livestock production, breeding practices, and potential livestock species such as trout, turkey, and black chicken to enhance productivity.
• Provide extension services, farmer training, technical advisory support, and skill development for improved livestock farming practices.
• Support the development of dairy, poultry, piggery, and other livestock enterprises while encouraging youth and private sector participation.
• Promote fodder and pasture development, farm mechanization, and labour-saving technologies for improved animal nutrition and productivity.
• Facilitate farm registration and maintain livestock data for planning, monitoring, evaluation, and policy formulation.
• Coordinate supply of livestock inputs and collaborate with technical agencies, stakeholders, and development partners.
• Promote livestock product diversification, value addition, packaging, marketing, and cold chain facilities.
• Ensure sustainable utilization, conservation, and management of livestock resources.

• Support for livestock product processing, value addition, packaging, quality improvement, and market linkage.
• Promotion of sustainable livestock management, biosecurity, entrepreneurship, and private sector participation.
