The Economic and Finance Committee (EFC) of the National Assembly convened a tourism stakeholder meeting in Samtse Dzongkhag to engage with local authorities and stakeholders on tourism policy and related issues.

The meeting was graced by Dasho Dzongdag and Dasho Dzongrab, and attended by Drungpas, Regional Immigration Officer, Chief Forest Officer, Sector Heads, Thromde Ngotshab, Gups, Taxi Association, and representatives from the business community.

Stakeholders held in-depth discussions on ways to unlock Samtse’s tourism potential. The deliberations touched upon improving infrastructure, easing immigration processes, and enhancing services to make Samtse a more attractive destination.

Beyond policies and logistics, the meeting also explored Samtse’s unique opportunities—from its rich cultural heritage and sacred sites to its pristine natural landscapes and community-based experiences. Ideas such as promoting traditional festivals, showcasing local crafts, and opening up scenic trails (similar to the historic walking routes toward Haa) were shared as means to create authentic visitor experiences.

The consultative meeting not only identified challenges such as limited facilities and digital connectivity but also highlighted the immense possibilities for Samtse to emerge as a distinctive tourism hub in southern Bhutan. The EFC assured that the valuable inputs gathered will be considered during national-level policy deliberations.
