As part of UNICEF Bhutan’s Community-Based Integrated Programming, Dophoogchen Gewog successfully hosted its first youth entrepreneurship training—a milestone initiative aimed at empowering youth aged 18–35 who are currently not engaged in school or formal employment.
Over 13 days, 29 youth participated in intensive sessions focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership. The training was conducted in partnership with UNICEF Bhutan, Samtse Dzongkhag Administration, Startup Center Samtse, and Dophoogchen Gewog Administration.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Deputy Representative of UNICEF Bhutan, Ms. Fawzia Hoodbhoy, who emphasized the vital role of youth as agents of change. She encouraged participants to build on the momentum of this training and contribute meaningfully to community development, particularly in areas such as education, health, child protection, and climate resilience.
During the training, six business ideas were pitched—including ventures in manufacturing, food production, and recreational services—demonstrating the creativity and potential of youth-led innovation in rural Bhutan.
This initiative reflects the integrated programming’s aim to strengthen local systems, promote inclusive planning, and foster meaningful youth engagement for sustainable development.
